Shocking Cost in Human Life

13 people dead. 11 people decapitated. 22 remains exhumed. 179 corpses found since last month. And all because of a turf war over who will make the most money off of Americans purchasing their drugs. Do any of the people “trying” out drugs for a kick ever think about the extreme cost that went into them getting their product? People will often not to buy a particular item because of the hard working conditions that plague the workers who made it. Do people think about the loss of life involved with the drugs that they think they need?

On Monday May 9, 2011, the Mexican marines who were patrolling Falcon Lake across the border from Texas discovered a drug gang camp on an island. The gunmen opened fire and the battle left 12 members of the Zetas drug cartel and one of the marines dead. This was a location that was used as a launching point to bring marijuana into our state by speedboat. The Marines collected more than 20 guns afterwards, including assault rifles.

Also on Monday, over in Durango, agents found 11 decapitated bodies with their heads next to them. Thus far they have not been identified.

Investigation is very difficult due to the violence of the Zetas. Last Autumn a couple from McAllen, Texas, David and Tiffany Hartley, were using their boat to cross Falcon Lake to take pictures of an old church on the Mexican side of the border. She reported that pirates shot and killed her husband. His body has still not been found, because the search was interrupted by threats to the authorities. Indeed, the chief investigator of the Harley case, Rolando Flores, was killed, and his decapitated head was delivered in a suitcase to the Mexican army post.

If you don’t feel ill just yet, I could go on, but that seems like enough to read for one day. Suffice it to say that this is the real War: the war for drug money. Someone needs to come up with a way to solve this problem.
